Create a Travel Journal

You can also lay out the history of the places you visited, so the trip and its background sit on one timeline. It is a fun way to preserve your memories.

How to make a travel journal timeline

Give every stop its own event. A flight or a multi-day leg takes a start date and an end date, so it draws as a bar covering the whole stretch, while a single moment such as a museum visit only needs a start date.

Use layers to keep the parts of the trip separate. One layer per city or country works well, and so does a layer for travel days, a layer for the places you stayed, and a layer for the history of the region you are in.

Every event has a Notes field that accepts Markdown, so you can write the day up underneath the event itself, and you can add a photo to any event to turn the finished timeline into a picture record of the trip.

Sharing it afterwards

If it is a family trip and your children will miss school, a travel journal timeline is a clear way to show the school what they saw and learned. You can print your timeline for their teachers, or share a link to it instead. Each child can build their own timeline under your account, or you can set them up with accounts of their own.
