The two criminals laugh and move in, then, in a flash, the boy draws a blade, hand crafted from knife, coupled with sharped sheet metal. The next day, two men are found dead in an ally, and a new hero is free across L.A.

Martin Edwards is born to a quiet family on the east side of Chicago. He studied Astronomy for the majority of his school career,and finally ended up co-leading the expedition at Epsilon Base.

In the icey tundra of the Antarctic, a solitary beam of light shines out in the darkness of eternal winter. This place is Epsilon Base, a place of warmth, of science. And of lies. The entire reason for its existance is to harvest the fruits of a cataclysm, but the price is not known by all. The scientist who work their have been sacrificed so that the powerful may receive what they deem they deserve. But not everything goes to plan. Something, who know what? An asteroid, a plane, a spacecraft? What ever it is, it crashes through the roof, dropping the base into chaos, by the time F.I.S.T. gets there, they can only save two, Ian Mond, respected yet relative new-comer to this field of science, and Martin Edwards, the founder and co-leader of the project.

A newly reborn Martin Edwards, still trying to aclimatise to a different world than the one he left, is once again thrown into darkness as I.T.H.I.C.A. is attacked by a legion of soldiers. This mysterious force lays siege to the island. Martin, still delirious stumbles through the dark hallways where his haunted by visions of his past. One such vision, however, is very real. The man he saw watching him at Epsilon Base. The cloaked, masked figure, Shizu. With eyes of uncaring shadow, he grabs hold Martins shoulders, and a heavy weight is lifted, Martin feels the wind whistle around him, and, as suddenly as the sensation came, t was gone, and Martin was left standing in a deserted corridor, the lights restored, feeling out of place.

With the city now awake and hunting, the three fresh fugitives seek shelter in the apartment of one Arca Sidd, after being directed there by the mysterious vigilante, Ariadnis. And so an unlikely team was forged, with Martin and Arca gathering supplies for the computer hacking temple Lazlo was creating in her office, and Martin and Lee keeping watch for anyone with a badge.

In an attempt to show his good intentions and make a good name for himself, Martin embarks on a quest of justice. His first stop is to stop the Serial Casino Robbings by the Four Armed Bandits, Miss Fortune and Sir Prize. After confronting them and creating a hostage situation in which Prize holds his sister Fortune at gunpoint, a mysterious figure in black knocks Prize out, leaving Martin to take the credit, until he is recognized as an international terrorist and chased away.

Invited as an artist to the unveiling of some new piece of ground breaking technology, Arca, alongside an awestruck Lazlo, bored Lee and confused Martin, arrive at the Expo. The Organizer of the event is none other than Hector Kane, one of the Invigilators of FIST. After the new invention, C4T4LY5T, a system of nano-machines that can change the atomic structure of other materials into its own, seemingly goes rouge, an intruding Lee discovers plans showing it all to intentional, with the mastermind appearing to be Kane himself!

Arca Sidd chooses a higher level, simply because she feels it suits her, being able to hide for most of the criminals, and being perfectly capable to defend herself. This meant she would be invovled in more than her fair share of crime in the prison, but with her shadow, Ariadnis, she felt she was safe. This, however, proved to be a mistake as Martin's break out attack takes place in the lower levels. This means she has to fight her way through the levels in a 'reverse run'.

Ariadnis was captured separately from the group, but escaped and chose to keep an eye on Ariadnis, helping her to stay safe and experiencing some of the darker aspect of the prison, like 'The Gutter Market', the mysterious character of Persona, and duo who know more than anyone should, going by the names of 'Harvey' and 'Mally'. In the final escape led by Martin, she was killed by falling ruble.

Martin regains conciseness in a steel, padded van, looking out the window, he sees the vast Amazon jungle. Passing through wrought iron gates, a huge, deep pit stretches out, and down. Once of, he's brought in chains before a man, completely covered in black steel, a spiked helmet, splashed with crimson, who asks him a question he doesn't understand.
'Top level's one, bottom level's a hundred. We have vacancies on levels four downward, what one you want?'
Martin doesn't understand, so he explains...

Much like Martin, Lee chose a low level, simply because she thought herself capable. There, she met a mysterious character in the cell opposite, who called himself 'Clive'. Though the two never met, they form a bond, and when the prison break, lead by Martin and Earnest, she is sad to hear he was carried off by the mob when the prisoners were released. However, years later, when the group meet with the character Clivito, a retired member of Shizu's kind, he greets Lee like an old friend, and perhaps they are.

The entire existence of the Lions Den is: The Run. The massive pit, as it goes down, gradually coming to a point with fewer and fewer cells as it gets closer to the bottom. The cells at the bottom are less of those of a prison and more of a palace. But this not because of their low numbers,but because there, The Run is longer, and more dangerous. While at the top, the slums that make up the top ten levels are some of the dangerous places in the continent, with its inhabitants being the kind of people they are. The Run itself consist of a single prisoner on a specific day, chosen at random, having to fight from their cell, on the floor they chose, to the front gates, and freedom. The levels get more dangerous the low you go, but longer the higher you go, you will get more rest and preparation the lower you go, but will you live long enough to use it once The Run starts? Martin makes the run alone,but doesn't see it all the way through, as an old friend breaks in half way through, leading a group of tribels that have helped him along the way. Earnest Cole, guns blazing, rescues Martin before his planned death. Escaping into the jungle, they hide in the outskirts, working up their forces before they can attack, and rescue Arca and Lee. Lazlo's whereabouts were unknown.

Over the course of a few months, the group, still occasionally attacked by FIST and DEAMON forces, worked secretly with the police force to bring down various recurring villains, such as Night Ma-re, Persona, Drahsch Zswicl and, deadliest of all, Lunorus. Two new villains appeared as well: The Sandman, a new nemesis to Lunorus, and C4T4LY5T, a computer program capable of converting any matter into the nano-bots that make up the machine. While it was intended to go on a rampage, it learned how to hone its skills.

Earnest air lifts Lee, Lazlo, Arca and Martin away from the prison as prisoners escape using the various helicopters, they are forced to leave Aridanis behind as the prison crumbles in on itself.
As they group runs to the helicopter, they are interrupted by the figure of Shizu.
'Honestly, do you people think about 'anyone' else when you act? First, you get captured, and just when I'd worked that in, you escape! Idiots, it will take an age to work this out.' Then he clutches his head, the group run past as a thunderstorm brews over head, and two silhouetted figures walk up to and stand next to Shizu, the three vanishing in a flash of lightening. Escaping through the storm, they return to Chicago, where Earnest has one final gift for the group.

Word reaches Martin, through Lazlo, of a gene scientist named Dr Osaidumlo, a genius in his field, and how he has found a sample of Mercury, and claims to have synthesized it to cure 'virtually anything'. Leaving the city under the care of 'The Five-Star Wonders'. Starlet, Maij, Darock, Id/Ego and Shpriggen gladly accept and moved in to Virgil's Point, re naming it to the 'Big Top', much to Lazlo's displeasure.
Going on a journey to Dr Osaidumlo's country of Georgia, they found a disturbing secret...

While in Georgia, the group is ambushed by an elite military force known as the Spetsnaz Pozhara, Elites of the Flame. These soldiers are the elite of Inferno. While hiding from them in a rural village, then come across the Robin Hood of southern Russia, Kopala. Aiding them in there plight, they eventually find the doctor, dying, but still capable of giving Lazlo the cure.
