Democritus was a philosopher that worked in Abdera, Greece. He was taught by his mentor named Leucippus. Leucippus came up with the hypothesis of the atomic theory. Then Democritus and Leucippus got a bowl of sand and then they started to cut the sand up and then soon realized that matter was indivisible. So basically he discovered the atom. He also wrote over 70 books.

Aristotle was a philosopher that came up with the theory that everything was made up of one of the four elements, fire, water, air and earth. He studied at Plato's academy. He founded and worked at his own school Lyceum. Aristotle also believed that the earth was in the centre of the universe, this theory and his other theory was wrong.

John Dalton was a chemist that brought back Democritus's theory. He also came up with theory that the over all pressure in a mixture led to the sum of partial pressures that each gas exerted while occupying the same space in 1803 Daltons scientific principle became known as Daltons law of partial pressures. John Dalton worked in Manchester, England and he studied at New College. John Dalton was also colour blind.

Dmitri Mendeleev was a came up with the periodic table but he was not the first person to come up with the periodic table. Dmitri Mendeleev was a chemist that worked in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He attended Saint Petersburg's main pedagogical institute. Dmitri Mendeleev was not the first to invent the periodic table, but his periodic table was the most successful out of all of them.

J J Thomson was a Lecturer that discovered the electron and he also came up with the theory that the atom can be divided. He also discovered that atoms are made of positive cores and negatively charged particles. J J Thomson worked at Manchester, England and he studied at Trinity College. In 1906 he won a noble prize.

Rutherford attended Nelson college school in 1887. In 1890 he attended Canterbury college in Christ church. Rutherford worked at Cavendish laboratory where he conducted experiments on the atomic nucleus. He experiments led him to discovering and creating the nuclear model. In a way this was a scientific brake through but it was paving way for the atom bomb. He was knighted in 1914.
